After you’ve created your models and added light to your scene, the next step is to apply materials. This is one of the most important stages of 3d design.

Textures and material determines the way light interacts with your model and using a high-quality material can significantly improve your final render.

 

This is a list of my go-to websites when looking for high-quality 3dtexuters and materials.

 

Textures.com is properly the biggest texture library online. Every 3d artist in all fields like architecture visualization, product rendering, 3d illustration, and computer games, or any other field, will have to use this website on regular basis.

The website offers digital pictures of different material types. You would find pictures of wood, rocks, metal, bricks, fabrics, and many more.

It also has a huge library of high-quality PBR textures, HDRI spheres, 3dscans, and 3d models.

 

Price: Free account: up to 15 images a day with low resolutions (around 1k).

If you need more images or higher resolution, you would have to purchase a premium credit pack.

All assets can be used in personal or commercial projects but you can’t resell or redistribute the files.

AmbientCGformerly known as CC0 Textures- offers more than 1300 PBR public domain materials that have high-quality Detailed and Seamless PBR maps.

The website also offers Substance Materials (SBSAR) that allows you to edit and tweak their parameters to your needs.

The website also promises to offer HDRI environments by the end of 2021 summer.

 

Price: It’s licensed under the Creative Commons CC0 Public Domain License. It means you can use them in any way personally or commercially.

 

  • Polyhaven 
    Polyhaven is a website that’s widely known for its HDRI environments. 

What you might not know is that the website also offers a big library of high resolution (up to 8k) PBR texture maps along with more than 80 realistic 3d models.

 

Price: The assets are licensed under the Creative Commons CC0. It means you can use them in any way personally or commercially.

 

  • Poliigon
    Poliigon is one of the biggest 3d assets platforms online that are used by numerous production companies, and studios.

All the assets available are of the highest quality and it offers a huge library of BPR textures that has a wide range of options in forms and colors for each category. It also offers imperfection maps that mimic microscopic detail and adds realism to your renders.

 

Price: More than 50 materials are available for free.

Premium access starts from 12$ to 35$ per month. Or you can buy a credit pack If you don’t want to pay for a monthly subscription.

 

  • CGAxis
    Cgaxis is a company known for its 3d model libraries and HDRI environments. They also offer huge libraries of Texture collections like stones, wood planks, concrete, and floor tiles, and many more assets.

 

Price: Textures Packs costs from 150$ to 200$ but you can buy separate materials for around 5$ each.

 

 3DTextures is a free PBR material library created by João Paulo. It’s known mostly for its gemstones material textures but it also has more than 200 other materials in different categories.

The website also offers a variety of substance material (SBSAR) Files.

  • Cgbookcase
    While this website is not very famous. It has a library of unique materials that you rarely find anywhere else like see-through fabric and knitted cloth.

  • Texture Ninja
    Texture Ninja is a public domain texture source created by Joost Vanhoutte. It has a variety of texture images organized in different categories but it doesn’t offer PBR texture materials.

You can use this website if you are looking for a very specific material map that you need for your project.
